It’s been a whirlwind!

A lot has happened in the last couple of years and I have been taken in directions that I never imagined. It’s been a process of change and growth that I completely appreciate and am still trying to navigate.

First, I became a member of the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and immediately began my journey of service to all mankind. The organization has afforded me the opportunity to work in some amazing and unique ways. However, this amazing door was only one that opened. I also became a student at an institution I have long admired and desired to attend, the one and only University of Miami! I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the SEALED program and will obtain my masters in Education and Social Change this May. So, suffice to say my work as an educator has taken center stage and I have become determined to be an exceptional 8th grade language arts teacher.

There’s also the work with the South Florida Tuskegee Alumni Club, increasing awareness of and recruiting students to my beloved HBCU, Tuskegee University. I am finding, through, this work a new love for the school where I had my most profound life changes and found some of the most amazing friends whom I still love and admire. It has been a truly rewarding experience!

Finally, there’s my volunteering to serve on an auxiliary board for the City of Opa Locka. My service seeks to assist city leaders in positioning my city in becoming an exemplary example of resilience and transformation.

Accordingly, Khadija and I will be relaunching our podcast, 2 Thick Chicks with a Mic, in the coming months!! So, as there are developments you’ll be among the first to know if you’re tuning in.
